Kimberly Whelan, RD
Kimberly is a Registered Dietitian, Health Coach and Group Facilitator who has a passion for guiding and supporting others in making health and lifestyle changes. She has a BS in Nutritional Science from San Jose State University and completed her dietetic internship at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. Her professional work over the last ten years has included collaborating on the design and development of innovative health coaching and education programs for managing weight and chronic conditions as part of federally funded studies with Kaiser Permanente and Stanford Prevention Research Center. These studies used motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral change techniques to build confidence and self-efficacy with making changes and meeting goals leading to increased activation and engagement in managing health and improved clinical outcomes.
Kimberly’s non-judgmental and compassionate approach empowers clients to navigate their journey with increased confidence by identifying barriers and building on successes. Clients are encouraged to experiment with strategies to assist with making changes and meeting goals, as well as learn to manage disruptions and set-backs for long-term weight maintenance.
While navigating her own life’s changes, Kimberly has found that success goes beyond meeting a specific weight goal or finding the perfect exercise routine, and includes learning how to be flexible through set-backs and disruptions and adapt, accepting that progress does not mean perfection, to appreciate what our bodies can do for us at every stage of life, and to keep focused on our bigger purpose for committing to managing weight and health long-term.
Kimberly enjoys many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and stand-up paddle boarding, as well as live outdoor performances like Shakespeare in the Park or the Los Gatos Jazz on the Plazz. She also loves to relax and destress by dancing, gardening, reading, coloring and listening to music. Kimberly’s favorite Sunday activity is going to the Farmer’s Market and choosing from the freshly picked, seasonal, organic produce and preparing meals for family and friends. She considers herself a “foody”, focusing mainly on healthy nutritious food choices and has learned over time how to enjoy less nutritious foods without guilt, shame, and feeling restricted. Her passion is to help others do the same by increasing confidence in enjoying food and quality of life on their journey to maintain health and vitality! |
